Job Description

There are studios where you wait years to be trusted with real responsibility.

And there are studios where, if you are capable, you are given the room to prove it.

This opportunity sits firmly in the second category.

Grõ Careers is exclusively partnering with a fast-growing, design-led London practice entering its next stage of growth. Still young, agile and non-corporate in feel, the studio has moved well beyond its early-stage identity and is now delivering increasingly substantial residential and mixed-use projects across London and the UK.

Led by founders with backgrounds in globally recognised architecture studios, this is a practice with serious design pedigree, but without the layers, politics or corporate restraint of a larger office.

That combination is what makes the opportunity interesting: ambitious projects, close access to senior decision-makers, and the chance to take on real responsibility without waiting years for permission.

They are now looking for an Architect or Project Architect with strong residential experience to play a key role in their next phase of growth.

The Opportunity

This is not a role for someone who wants to sit quietly inside a large team, waiting for responsibility to filter down.

You will be joining a studio where people are trusted early, exposed to clients and consultants, and encouraged to take genuine ownership... a non-traditional practice environment.

The current requirement is focused on a growing pipeline of residential schemes, including larger projects in the region of 100-200+ units. Some are later-stage schemes, taking inherited planning proposals through Stage 3 and beyond. Others are earlier-stage projects expected to progress into technical delivery.

The common thread is ownership.

You will be close to the work, close to the decision-making, and close to the senior team.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will take residential/mixed-use projects through key design and delivery stages, working closely with clients, directors, associates, and consultants.

Your role will include:

  • taking day-to-day ownership of residential and mixed-use project workstreams (with support of a junior team);
  • developing and coordinating design information (across all RIBA Stages);
  • working through gateway, technical design and delivery-stage challenges;
  • coordinating consultants and external project teams;
  • reviewing inherited design information and helping move projects forward;
  • maintaining design intent while responding to technical, regulatory and commercial pressures;
  • contributing to a studio culture where people get stuck in rather than hide behind hierarchy.

Why This Is Different

The studio has the energy of a younger practice, but the project pipeline of a business moving into a more mature and ambitious phase.

It is relaxed, low-ego and intentionally non-corporate, but the expectations are high.

You will not be boxed into a narrow title. If you show capability, you will be given responsibility. If you want more exposure, you will not have to wait years for someone to notice.

This could be particularly relevant if you are currently in a larger prominent practice and feel ready to move away from being one part of a much bigger machine.

You’ll Thrive Here If…

  • You are technically capable, but not purely technical.
  • You understand residential projects, but care deeply about design quality.
  • You are comfortable taking responsibility, asking the right questions, and working with a degree of autonomy.
  • You are calm under pressure, low-ego and commercially aware.
  • You enjoy being close to the project rather than removed from it.
  • You are confident in Revit and comfortable working in a fast-moving studio environment.

Useful Experience

The strongest fit will bring:

  • UK residential project experience (£10+ million construction value);
  • exposure to multi-unit schemes;
  • strong Revit capability;
  • experience across all RIBA Stages;
  • design / technical coordination and consultant coordination experience;
  • confidence working with clients, consultants and internal teams;
  • an interest in joining a studio where progression is based on contribution, not rigid hierarchy.

The Working Setup

The studio is London-based, with a general working pattern of four days in the studio and one day from home.

The environment is relaxed, creative and informal, but also ambitious. This is a team looking for people who want to contribute properly, not simply fill a seat.

This Opportunity Includes

More responsibility.

More visibility.

Closer access to senior leadership (industry-renowned architects from leading design firms).

A wider role across design, coordination and delivery.

And the opportunity to join a studio at an exciting point of evolution, where its next phase is taking shape.
