Job Description

Our client is a well-established and growing fabrication and engineering business delivering high-quality steel fabrication, structural steelwork, and bespoke engineering solutions across a range of sectors. Due to continued growth and an increasing project pipeline, they are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute professional to take ownership of projects from tender through to final account, ensuring commercial success while supporting the delivery of high-quality engineering and fabrication projects.



Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial aspects of multiple fabrication and engineering projects.
  • Prepare, submit, and negotiate valuations, applications for payment, variations, and final accounts.
  • Monitor project costs, budgets, and forecasts to ensure profitability targets are achieved.
  • Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review and administer contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Procure subcontractors and suppliers and manage associated accounts.
  • Work closely with project managers, design teams, and operational staff to support project delivery.
  • Produce accurate commercial reports and forecasts for senior management.
  • Negotiate and agree variations and change control processes with clients.
  • Support tendering activities by providing commercial input, pricing reviews, and cost advice.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and key stakeholders.


Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within construction, fabrication, engineering, or related industries.
  • Strong understanding of cost management, contract administration, and commercial reporting.
  • Experience managing subcontractor accounts and procurement processes.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.


Desirable

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience within structural steelwork, fabrication, engineering, or manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of NEC, JCT, or bespoke contract forms.
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle management and cost control.
